February 20, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm EST

Participants of the live webinar will be eligible for 1.5 free CPE credit.

Members of BDO’s Compensation and Benefits practice will share insights on recently issued preliminary guidance from the IRS regarding the new 21% excise tax where tax-exempt employers could owe taxes on annual executive compensation over $1 million. The excise tax could also be applied to separation pay that equals or exceeds three times the average earnings of certain highly compensated employees. We will also discuss new Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) increases for tax-exempt employers who provide parking and/or transit benefits to employees. The webinar will include practical pointers on what tax-exempt organizations can do to reduce exposure to these new taxes.

Participants of this webinar will be able to:

  • Understand when the 21% excise tax on executive compensation applies to the tax exempt organization (and could apply to related taxable entities) and how to pay it.
  • Understand examples and strategies that could mitigate or eliminate the tax.
  • Provide working knowledge of how to compute UBIT imposed on employer-provided qualified transportation benefits (including parking, transit passes and van pools).
  • Understand the importance of anticipating, and preparing for, leadership’s retirement and undertaking successful transition planning.
