Program Content:The pace of change in state and local tax (SALT) has been very rapid for businesses that have multistate reach. The impact of federal tax reform is continuing to be felt at the state level. Specifically, many states have considered whether to conform with international income provisions and business interest deduction limitations. In addition, most states have responded to the Supreme Court’s decision in South Dakota v. Wayfair that concerned remote seller sales and use tax collection requirements. For many businesses, SALT planning and compliance has a new urgency as they balance these new developments. We will discuss significant SALT developments, assess predictions made in 2019 and outline key state & local tax developments for 2020.
