The Affordable Care Act – Federal and state reporting update for employers

August 29, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT

Participants of the live webinar will be eligible for 1 free CPE credit.

To ensure that our discussion is as informative as possible, please send any questions that you have regarding The Affordable Care Act (ACA) to thought.center.webcast@ey.com no later than Friday, 23 August 2019.

Although the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act effectively repealed the individual mandate starting with calendar year 2019, there are no changes to the employer mandate provision or reporting requirements. The ACA remains the law of the land and the complexity is growing.

With the end of the federal individual mandate penalties, states and jurisdictions are looking to fill the gap with their own individual mandates. New Jersey, Vermont and Washington, DC have passed individual mandate legislation last year with California and Rhode Island joining the list this year. There are more states and jurisdictions looking at similar legislation. Additionally, the IRS is issuing assessments in full force (226J letters) with short deadlines for employers to respond.

Join our panel of Ernst & Young LLP professionals for a discussion of how your business might appropriately navigate the increasing complexity and challenges of ACA reporting. Topics to be discussed include:

  • The latest on federal legislation and why the ACA is still important to your business
  • State mandates and the variety of rules that are increasing compliance complexity
  • Potential penalties and costs related to IRS inquires and audit assessments
  • Considerations regarding the impact of mergers and acquisitions on reporting
  • Opportunities for cost and cash savings from ACA data collection

Discussion topics may change or be supplemented depending on whether new legislative developments occur before the webcast.

1.0 RCH credit is available to Certified Payroll Professionals (CPP) and Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) professionals.
