SUMMARY:Ethics in Action
DESCRIPTION:Event details\n\n\n\nEthical decisions in public service are not always clear-cut. In this two-hour webinar\, participants will explore real-world scenarios and practical frameworks for navigating ethical challenges. The session will examine conflicts of interest\, use of public resources\, transparency\, and fair decision-making processes. Participants also will review how pressure and incentives can influence judgment and how to recognize and address ethical risks. \n\n\n\nGrounded in California Senate Bill 827 requirements\, this webinar will provide guidance for applying relevant ethics laws and supporting accountability in public service. Existing law imposes two hours of ethics training on specified local agency officials. The new bill\, effective Jan. 1\, 2026\, expands which local agency officials are required to complete the ethics training every two years to include department heads and other similar administrative officers. The bill also requires officials who commence service on or after Jan. 1\, 2026\, to receive their initial training within six months of starting. \n\n\n\nAfter participating in this session\, attendees should be able to:\n\n\n\n\nIdentify and navigate conflicts of interest\, including risks related to personal financial gain and bribery\n\n\n\nAnalyze how real-world pressures and incentives influence ethical decision-making\, and apply strategies to address risks\n\n\n\nApply practices that promote trust\, accountability\, and integrity in public service roles\n\n\n\n\nContinuing professional education\n\n\n\nPrerequisites: None \n\n\n\nProgram level: Basic \n\n\n\nAdvance preparation: None \n\n\n\nDelivery method: Webinar (group internet based) \n\n\n\nField of study: Regulatory Ethics \n\n\n\nThis session is recommended for 2.0 hours of CPE credit. \n\n\n\nNote: All participants MUST be logged into the webinar INDIVIDUALLY to receive CPE credit.
