Just in time for conversation starters at backyard BBQs, on July 4, 2025, President Trump signed One Big, Beautiful Bill (OB3), which includes a number of corporate and individual tax provisions. Combined with all the tax changes that have occurred since the 2017 enactment of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the pattern of state conformity to the Internal Revenue Code is a patchwork, to say the least. This will make it challenging to determine how the OB3 tax changes to IRC sections 174, 163(j), GILTI, and many more will affect taxpayers from a state income tax perspective.
