Crude Calculations: Navigating Compliance in Unclaimed Property for Oil & Gas

August 27, 2025 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm EDT
Oil and gas organizations face many complex state and local requirements. Among these, unclaimed property reporting obligations are frequently misunderstood. The most significant unclaimed property issue for E&P companies is the reporting of royalty payments. The industry is witnessing an increase in False Claims Act cases involving royalty payment escheat compliance, and other unclaimed property issues. Therefore, maintaining a process that accurately addresses all property types, including royalties, is imperative. More states are auditing oil and gas companies for unclaimed property purposes, including Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Louisiana.
