Final engagement communications: Why, what, and how?

March 17 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm EDT
Description:
Internal audit reports continue to be the most common way to communicate final engagement results. However, the Standards have never mandated reports as the medium. The 2024 Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS) and The 2025 Global Practice Guide on Final Engagement Communications make clear that internal auditors must focus on effective communication throughout engagements to deliver value to clients.
This session will touch on enduring principles of effective communication, significant points arising from the GIAS and the Global Practice Guide, and the growing use of LLMs.
This session is led by Sara I. James, who is an internal auditor and a professional freelance writer and editor. She was the copyeditor of the GIAS and was part of the working group for the Final Engagement Communications Global Practice Guide.
Learning objectives:
- Understand the principles of critical thinking and plain language, and how they relate to internal audit communications.
- Refresh the GIAS and Final Engagement Communications Global Practice Guide content to comply with IIA Global expectations.
- Evaluate the pros and cons of LLMs in drafting internal audit communications.
