Hurricane-Ready: Insurance Preparedness & Recovery for Organizations

April 29 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm EDT
Hurricanes can trigger cascading impacts across organizations of all types – property damage, operational disruptions, workforce shortages, supply chain delays, and financing pressure. Yet even when the cause of loss is clear, insurance recovery can still be complex due to policy nuances, adjuster constraints, and documentation gaps.
This webcast focuses on hurricane preparedness from a claims recovery lens. BDO’s Claims Recovery leaders will outline practical steps to take before landfall to reduce claim friction after the storm. These steps include aligning internal stakeholders and external partners on expectations under risk programs, planning for post-event cost surges and vendor demand, addressing supply chain disruptions, and evaluating delay-related costs such as incremental financing expenses. We’ll also cover the documentation habits that make claims easier to substantiate and faster to resolve.
1.0 CPE Credit in the field of Specialized Knowledge (SK)
Learning Objectives
- Apply a hurricane insurance preparedness plan that includes pre-storm policy review, claim roles/responsibilities, and immediate post-storm actions to protect recovery timelines.
- Manage post-hurricane cost driversโincluding vendor surge pricing, emergency procurement, supply-chain expediting costs and identify where insurance coverage limitations may create gaps.
- Analyze delay-related financial exposure following a hurricane, including incremental financing costs, operational downtime impacts, other indirect expenses, and assess whether coverage limits are sufficient.
- Employ hurricane-ready documentation practices (pre-loss baselines, communication logs, correspondence tracking, and operational impact documentation) to meet the burden of proof and accelerate claim resolution.
