Strategies for Federal Grant Terminations: Managing Risk and Mitigating Impact

This presentation will provide an update on grant terminations observed across federal agencies in the Trump Administration, including typical bases invoked and the potential for administrative and judicial challenges to such terminations. Beyond disputing terminations, the speakers will address how to best mitigate exposure to risk of an unexpected termination, as well as how to best position one’s organization to attempt to recover termination costs of various types. Although the current environment of grant terminations presents significant challenges for federal grantees, there are useful lessons to learn that will be of benefit to grant managers over long-term in their careers.
