Why Nonprofits Should Care about Compensation

This webcast will provide nonprofit leaders with practical guidance on compensation topics that affect governance, regulatory compliance, talent strategy, and public/stakeholder perception. The session is structured around compensation considerations for (1) board members, (2) executives, and (3) the broader employee group.

Learning Objectives
- Discuss Non-officer board member compensation and when paying board members is appropriate vs. when board service should remain volunteer based.
- Review how to structure and document compensation to help mitigate risk associated with private benefit/inurement and Intermediate Sanctions (IRC 4958), and considerations related to IRC 4960 excise tax.
- Analyze stakeholder perception and transparency and executive pay is publicly available via Form 990, increasing the need for defensible pay levels and clear pay positioning.
- Examine broad employee group compensation including establishing an employee value proposition, determining market-rate pay levels, and designing pay-for-performance approaches.
