Internal Audit’s Role in enhancing data governance and protection in the cloud

FreeParticipants of the free live webinar will be eligible for 1 CPE credit.
Event Description
Data breaches in a cloud environment continue to be a leading cause for concern for organizations across all industries. Despite well adapted cybersecurity practices and controls, many organizations struggle with protecting sensitive information in the cloud which can lead to significant impact from financial losses, reputational damage, and potential legal implications. Adding to the complexity, the risk of data loss is heightened due to the shared responsibility model, where both the cloud provider and the organization must implement well coordinated security measures.
Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) refers to the practice of continuously assessing, monitoring, and managing an organization’s data governance and data protection measures. DSPM helps evaluate data identification, classification and protection of sensitive information through its data lifecycle. It involves analyzing and improving data security controls, policies, and procedures to prevent data breaches, unauthorized access, and accidental data disclosure.
To safeguard against the risk of data loss, internal auditor leaders can guide organizations in defining and maturing data governance and data protection controls through DSPM technologies. Leveraging the insights gained through DSPM solutions, they can work with IT teams to establish comprehensive data governance, data classification, access controls, encryption, and data loss prevention measures.
Join Grant Thornton’s IT Internal Audit team on October 18th to discuss how internal audit leaders can assist organizations in adopting advanced technical auditing methods to effectively minimize risks of potential data loss in a cloud environment, and guide the process by understanding potential benefits and challenges of using technical auditing methods. In doing so, we’ll share how IA teams can effectively collaborate with cloud architects, data scientists and IT professionals to ensure proper controls are implemented to manage risks.
The discussion will focus on:
Current trends in data security and the evolving landscape of threats in cloud environments.
Examples of organizations effectively implementing DSPM strategies and highlight lessons learned.
Addressing challenges such as compliance issues, misconfiguration risks, and lack of visibility into cloud data.
Evaluate how DSPM technologies impact existing data governance strategies and data protection controls.
Provide insights into how internal auditors can assess technical controls using DSPM tools for enhanced data governance and data protection.
Discuss strategies for organizations to continually improve their data governance and data protection controls by taking a data-first approach and leveraging DSPM insights.
